1 Million Meals for Haiti
By Citizen Journalist, Lauren Heeger
Imagine a country where over 70% of the population is under nourished. This is the reality of the people who live in the country of Haiti. Natural disasters continue to destroy this land where over 10 million people call home.
Southland Christian Church is partnering with Lifeline Christian Mission to pack one millions meals for the people of Haiti. These meals will be sent to hungry children and people who, oftentimes, go to bed hungry. Southland Christian Church is asking volunteers to help pack, ship, and distribute this food. The food will be given out to children in the schools of Haiti. Through this ministry, the people of the Lifeline Christian Mission hope the spread the word of Jesus to those who may not hear it any other way.
Want to get involved? By going online to SouthlandChristian.org, you can donate money to the cause or volunteer to help pack the food. It is projected that $30 will provide about 300 meals for the children of Haiti. This results in the meals being around 10 cents each. Any amount of money given is sure to help these people tremendously. You can also sign up on volunteer on the same website above. The packing will begin the first week of December.
As the holidays are approaching, many of us will enjoy time with family and friends. Through this time of year, it is easy to forget how blessed a lot of of us are for having the simple necessities of life, such as food. Taking time out of your busy schedule, or simply donating a little extra money will go a long way in helping those less fortunate. By serving others and giving of themselves, the people of Southland Christian Church and Lifeline Christian Mission hope to spread the love of Jesus to those who need it most.
